The Vice President, Jessica Alupo launched the Sam Owor Skilling Hub on Thursday, December 18, 2025, in Tororo Municipality, describing it as a timely intervention to equip young people with practical skills and reduce unemployment in the area.
The hub, located in Agururu A1, Western Division, is expected to train youth in hands-on skills that will enable them to earn sustainable livelihoods and contribute to the municipality’s economic growth.
The launch attracted several dignitaries, including NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi, local leaders, and community members, who said the hub will play a critical role in equipping youth with practical, employable skills.
According to Alupo skill development is critical if Uganda is to address the challenge of joblessness among young people.
“Government is prioritizing skill development because it empowers our youth to become job creators rather than job seekers,” Alupo said.
“Facilities like this hub will prepare young people to participate meaningfully in the economy,” Alupo added
The Vice President commended the partners behind the initiative, noting that community-driven projects play a key role in complementing government efforts.

His Royal Highness Kwar Adhola, Moses Stephen Owor, emphasized that skilled labour is essential as Tororo advances toward city status.
“As Tororo grows, investors will only come where there is skilled manpower,” he said.
“This skilling hub is therefore not just for today, but for the future of this region,” Kwar added
Tororo Municipality Mayor, Kenneth Orono Nyapidi, described the hub as a powerful tool in addressing unemployment and accelerating development.
