The Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) have reported a largely calm and orderly Christmas and Boxing Day across the metropolitan area, attributing the absence of major security incidents to strategic planning, heightened deployments, and strong collaboration with sister security agencies whose support greatly enhanced security coverage.
In a press statement released on 27th December 2025, the Deputy Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, said police maintained both overt and covert patrols along major roads, beaches, landing sites, and entertainment venues throughout the festive period to ensure public safety.
“The 2025 festive season, particularly Christmas Day and Boxing Day, was generally calm and well-managed across Kampala, with no major incidents registered,” ASP Owoyesigyire said.
He also revealed that police worked closely with the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and Aviation Police to bolster security coverage, ensuring that large gatherings, concerts, beach activities, religious events, and entertainment venues were closely monitored with no disruptions.
Key locations included Imperial Resort Beach Hotel, Aero Beach, Lido and White Sand beaches, Kitubulu Public Beach, Nkumba and Manyago beaches, Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC), and Victoria Mall.
“All events concluded peacefully and in an orderly manner, a result of proactive planning and a strong, visible security presence throughout the celebrations,” the KMP Deputy Spokesperson noted.
Despite the overall calm, isolated incidents occurred.
A fire in Kitende, Kajjansi Town Council, Wakiso District, destroyed a six-room house, though all nine occupants escaped unharmed. Preliminary findings point to a suspected electrical fault.
“A combined team of detectives, SOCO, and the Fire Brigade responded swiftly, secured the scene, and immediately launched investigations,” ASP Owoyesigyire stated.
Police reported a few isolated incidents, including one injury case at Aero Beach, one fatal road accident, one serious accident, and four minor accidents.
Several suspected phone snatchers were also arrested, among them a known repeat offender who operates in Kisenyi, commonly known as Makona.
ASP Owoyesigyire emphasized that proactive deployments and inter-agency coordination were key to keeping crime and accident levels significantly lower than in previous festive seasons.
“Overall, crime and accident levels were significantly lower compared to previous festive seasons,” he said.
As the country prepares for New Year celebrations, police have assured the public that robust security operations remain fully in place.
“We continue to closely monitor the situation as the festive season progresses. So far, no major incidents have been recorded, and we commend the public for their cooperation and responsible conduct,” the KMP Deputy Spokesperson concluded.
Police say security deployments will remain heightened as the New Year approaches, with continued patrols and close coordination among security agencies to ensure public safety across the Kampala Metropolitan Are .
