President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has cautioned voters in Butambala District against electing what he described as inexperienced politicians, warning that such choices could derail development programmes in the area.

Addressing an NRM presidential campaign rally at Nkokoma Playground in Butambala District, the President said leadership requires experience, ideological clarity, and the ability to work with government systems to deliver services to the people.

He urged voters to reject leaders he termed political gamblers, whom he accused of lacking commitment to long-term development.

President Museveni emphasized that effective service delivery depends on electing leaders who understand and support the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ideology. He argued that opposition politicians have in the past frustrated development initiatives in Butambala by failing to cooperate with government programmes.

The President reaffirmed the NRM government’s commitment to infrastructure development in the district, pledging to oversee the tarmacking of the Mitala Maria–Kanoni Road. He noted that the road would enhance connectivity and complement existing tarmac routes, including the Mpigi–Kibibi–Gombe–Mpenja–Kanoni–Kabulasoke–Maddu–Masaka highway.

He also said plans were underway to tarmac the Mitala Maria–Bulo–Kinoni road.

Highlighting achievements under the NRM administration, President Museveni pointed to improvements in road networks, electricity supply to all sub-county headquarters, expanded telecommunication services, and increased access to clean and safe water.

He pledged that water services would be extended to the remaining villages still underserved in the district.

In the health sector, the President said government had achieved “last-mile” service delivery, with all sub-counties now having health centres, supported by a district general hospital at Gombe.

On youth empowerment, President Museveni announced plans to establish a Presidential Industrial Skilling Hub in the Greater Mpigi area to equip young people with practical vocational skills. He cited the success of the Kayunga Zonal Industrial Skilling Hub as evidence that skills training can transform livelihoods.

The President also encouraged residents to focus on wealth creation through sustainable land use and viable household enterprises, citing increased coffee production in Butambala and neighbouring districts as a result of deliberate government support.

Based on these developments, President Museveni urged voters to renew the NRM’s mandate by re-electing him and NRM flag bearers in the forthcoming general elections, saying continuity in leadership was key to sustaining development gains.
