Kabale, Uganda – January 30, 2026 —
Hundreds of faithful gathered at the Rugarama Convention Site in Kabale Municipality as the Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, officially opened the 20th Annual Brethren Conference of the Diocese of Kigezi. The four-day spiritual event, running from January 29 to February 1, 2026, is being held under the inspiring theme “Christ is our peace,” drawn from Ephesians 2:14.
The conference serves as a major moment of renewal, fellowship, and teaching for Christians across the Kigezi region, with expectations that over 2,000 participants would attend the various sessions, worship services, and teachings.
Archbishop Kaziimba, who arrived in the diocese earlier on Thursday for a broader four-day pastoral and farewell visit ahead of his planned retirement in 2027, was warmly received by Rt. Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna, Bishop of Kigezi, along with clergy, local leaders, and a large crowd of brethren.
In his opening remarks, the Archbishop expressed deep gratitude for the turnout and emphasized the conference’s purpose.
“It’s a time to be renewed in Christ, to forgive each other, to make peace with God, with our neighbors, and with ourselves,” he said, highlighting the call to reconciliation and unity in a season often marked by national events like elections.
The event began with vibrant worship and has continued into its second day, featuring live-streamed sessions that allow wider participation beyond those physically present at Rugarama Hill.

This milestone 20th edition of the Brethren Conference highlights the enduring tradition of spiritual gatherings in the Diocese of Kigezi, providing space for reflection, Bible teaching, testimonies, and communal prayer. As Day 2 progresses, the focus remains on the central message that true and lasting peace is found in Jesus Christ.
